UNIONTOWN, PA- Second-seeded Ave Maria University Gyrenes defeated the seventh-seeded Victory University Eagles in a closely contested game. The Eagles closed a 23 point deficit to come within two points, but Ave Maria was able to pull away in the last minutes and secure a 89-76 victory.
Ave Maria's Kiel Lewis, a senior, led the team in scoring with 25 points and went 13-14 from the charity stripe; including making six straight free-throws down the stretch to seal the game. Junior guard, Akii Dean, added 11 points, collected seven rebounds, as well as dished out a team leading seven assists. The Gyrenes shot 48% from the field for the game.
Victory was led by Keron Jackson, a senior, who scored 18 points. Ave Maria University will face off against third-seeded Deamen College tomorrow evening at 10:00 pm in the main arena.
