UNIONTOWN,PA- The 2013 USCAA Basketball Championships kicked off with the sixth-seeded Southern Virginia Lady Knights falling to the third-seeded Lady Lynx of Lindenwood Belleville by a score of 87-52
Senior guard Bernie Brown led Lindenwood with 19 points (8-9fg), 13 assists, and 7 steals. Brooke Dunning and Taylor James also contributed 19 points. The Lady Lynx shot over fifty percent from the field and 50 percent (11-22) from behind the arc. 43 of Lindenwood's 87 points came off of Southern Virginia turnovers.
The Lady Knights' Amaris Newkirk tallied 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals in the losing effort. 38 of Southern Virginia's 52 points came from inside the paint. Three of the Lady Knight's seven players finished in double figures. The Lynx will advance to play the winner of the Ave Maria University and Robert Morris University-Springfield game.
