IN BRIEF: University of Maine Fort Kent had a pair of players record double-doubles as the Bengals defeated the Lakers of Silver Lake College 83-60 in the opening round of the Women's Division I Tournament Wednesday.

 

ON THE COURT

  • With a short bench that saw the starters playing the entire first half, Maine-Fort Kent used efficiency by shooting 57.6% from the field and 70% from the charity stripe to build a 46-28 halftime lead.
  • The Bengals went on a 13-3 run to close the second quarter to put Maine Fort Kent up by double digits for the remainder of the game.
  • In the second half, Maine-Fort Kent's lead grew to as large as 26, with Silver Lake was not able to get within 17 points of the Bengals.
  • Maine-Fort Kent's Samantha Carapellucci led all scorers with 33 points, while also chipping in 11 rebounds.  Teammate Ericka Saucier proved to be a force in the paint, recording 27 points and 19 rebounds.
 

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • Maine-Fort Kent's Romanalyn Inocencio recorded 15 assists in the game, which broke the USCAA Women's Division I Tournament record of 14 set by Lindenwood-Bellville's Megan Clark in 2012.
  • In addition to distributing the ball in record fashion, Inocencio also recorded 13 points and six steals for the Bengals.
  • Silver Lake used the long-range shot relied heavily on the long-range shot, as 11 of their 22 made field goals came from behind the arc.
  • The Bengals outrebounded the Lakers 49-38, with the 11-rebound difference all occurring on the defensive end.
  • Silver Lake had a balanced scoring attack with 10 players getting into the scorer's column, led by Danelle Buck's 11-point performance.
